NATIONAL WALLACE MONUMENT

The film 'Braveheart' has led to a big increase in visitors to this impressive tower recalling Scotland's greatest freedom fighter, Sir William Wallace (1267-1305). Erected by public subscription and opened in 1869.

The top of the 220 feet high tower, reached by 246 steps. commands one of the finest views in Scotland. Below, 3 halls or chambers house Wallace's famous double-handed broadsword, a talking head of Wallace where you can learn of his struggles to free Scotland from English rule, and a Scottish Hall of Heroes.
