| HOME PAID ATTRACTIONS WHAT'S ON | THE TOLBOOTH and MERCAT CROSS The Tolbooth, the administrative heart of the Old Town, was built in 1703-05 by Sir William Bruce. Its tower has a rare surviving example of a Dutch pavilion roof. Today, it is a popular music venue with a regular year round arts programme (click to see What's on at The Tolbooth). Outside in Broad Street stands the Mercat Cross, once the focus of the town's trading activity. The unicorn figure on top is known locally as 'the puggy'. Broad Street, Stirling Old Town
